LMU Given $540,000 Grant To Create Animation Lab
The Walter Lantz Foundation have given their largest grant to date to an animation program at a university. The foundation has given a $540,000 grant to Loyola Marymount University to help them create a modern and technology rich animation laboratory. The School of Film and Television at LMU will use the money to furnish the lab with state of the art digital technology that will allow students to work with software and other animation equipment that is commonly used by professionals. University of Washington Receives Record $334 Million In Donations
Yet again the University of Washington received a record amount of private donations in within the last year. The school was given a total of $334 million, which is an increase of about 17 percent since last year, for a number of programs including student scholarships, new construction projects and cancer research. That figure places the University of Washington’s private funding achievements fourth out of the nations public universities and fourteenth out of the total universities in the US, beating the University of California and Cornell University. Ray Charles Foundation Wants To Take Back University Donation
A few years before his death, Ray Charles asked for a $3 million gift to be donated to Albany State University to build a performing arts center, which was to be named after the artist himself. Charles gave the school $1 million in 2001 and a further $2 million a year later. A decade later there is no sure signs of the building being started. As a result the Ray Charles Foundation is asking for the money back and say they can’t believe the school hasn’t lived up to their part of the bargain. [Read more...]
Miami University Receives $3 Million Donation
Miami University has plans to use a recent $3 million donation to build a new theater within the Armstrong Student Center. This recent donation brings the total amount donated by Harry Wilks to $9 million. Wilks is a Miami University alum and retired attorney, whose pledges have helped fund various projects on a few of the school’s campuses and has also funded scholarship programs.
86 year old Wilks attended the school as a student in 1948 and is also a member of the school’s board of trustees. His previous gifts have helped fund the Leadership Institute at the school’s Oxford campus and also a conference center. [Read more...]
Couple From Woodbridge Donate $4.5 Million To Uconn
Peter an Pam Werth announced that they will be donating a total of $4.5 million to the University of Connecticut to help pay for the construction of the schools new basketball facility. The Werth’s donation is the single largest pledge in the history of the university. The total cost of the basketball training center is estimated at about $30 million and will help to train and produce the highly talented players the school is used to. [Read more...]

Only after a few hours after Stanford University officials announced they would have to pull out of the competition to design and build a hi-tech and environmentally friendly university campus on Roosevelt Island, they were given a huge $350 million donation aimed at keeping the school in the running. Amazon Founder Donates $15 Million To Princeton
Former Princeton student and founder of the popular online shopping website Amazon.com, Jeff Bezos, has donated a total of $15 million to the school to help create a program that will be dedicated to studying the various functions of the brain. Bezos and his wife MacKenzie’s pledge will go towards starting the Bezos Center for Neural Circuit Dynamics, which will focus on researching the brains neural circuits and how they work. Duke University Receives $50 Million Donation
Duke University has received a $50 million donation from former student, Bruce Karsh and his wife Martha. The money was given in the hope of helping students, who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford the tuition fees to attend the school. $30 million is to go towards helping US students and the other $20 million to international students. Previously Anonymous Indiana University Donor Reveals Himself
A donor who made a $15 million pledge in 2009 to Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business has revealed his identity after originally wanting to be anonymous. The donor, James Hodge, said he didn’t want to be named when he made the donation two years ago because people might have thought he was “showing off” in times of recession. However he now wants to be named in the hope that others will follow his example and make pledges of their own. [Read more...]
