Life moves quickly, there is just no getting around that fact. Luckily, as people, we have an enormous capacity for dreaming. Having dreams often leads to a set of goals that we hope to accomplish within our lifetime. A bucket list is a specialized ‘dream list’ of all the things we want to do before our final hour, and with amazing tasks set before you, it’s nearly impossible to live each day without a degree of enthusiasm. In the name of living life to the fullest, here are seven things that should be on everyone’s bucket list starting today.
Learn another language…fluently
We live in a globalized world where cultures, languages and ethnicities have begun to seamlessly overlap. Whether for personal pleasure, travel efficiency or business endeavors, learning another language fluently is a life skill that can only improve your day-to-day living. Learning another language gives you the opportunity to be exposed to not only another set of ideas, but conversations with individuals you once would not have had the privilege of knowing. Learn a language and watch your personal life and career soar.
Travel somewhere you’ve never been
In our age of high speed and modern technology, the other side of the world just isn’t as far away as it once was. We only have one lifetime to get to know the planet we’ve been born to, so why not add a global adventure to your bucket list? Take some time to plan a trip that you’ve always dreamed of taking and make it count. You don’t have to leave tomorrow—instead, plan for a future getaway that takes you to places you’ve only visited in your mind.
Participate in an athletic event that seems impossible
Have you ever told your friends that you could never finish a marathon, or do that 5K for charity? Now is the time to go back on your promise and instead, decide to participate in an athletic event that once upon a time seemed too difficult. Completing a physical task is a rewarding and inspiring experience. Double the greatness by making the event a charity run or walk. Not only will you be surprised at your own strength and endurance, but you’ll be making a lasting difference in the lives of others.
Learn to meditate
Our lives can get crazy and sometimes it’s only when we learn to relax regularly as well, that we can truly appreciate the time we’ve been given. Learn to meditate and watch your emotional world calm down and lift you up. Meditation is an art and health mechanism that takes time and dedication, but offers up big life improvements.
Learn to dance
Whether you pick up Salsa, Belly Dance, Ballroom or classical ballet, learning to dance is a must-do on your bucket list. Dance is an expression of passion, and a great way to meet others in a stress-free environment. Dance is not only great for your health, but dances from different parts of the world open up cultures and customs that you may not have even known existed!
Write a story
Even if you don’t feel comfortable turning a beautiful phrase, everyone should, at one point or another, pen a story. It doesn’t matter if it’s science fiction or a biography—taking the time to put your thoughts to paper is a good way to learn to express yourself and could be a therapeutic outlet as well. Who knows, that short story you write on a whim could be tomorrow’s bestseller.
Put your feet in the ocean
While coastal dwellers have been to the watery wilds all their lives, land-locked residents should make a focused effort to put their feet in the ocean at least once in their lives. Not only can the ocean be a beautiful experience, but it’s one that’s bound to stick with you to the end. Those that have access to the ocean should attempt to appreciate it on a regular basis. Taking the time to indulge in the world’s natural wonder is a great morale booster.
