Georgetown University Clock Tower Hands Missing

In what is thought to be a prank undertaken by one or more senior students at Georgetown University, the hands of the school’s Healy Hall clock tower have gone missing. It has been a long-standing tradition for students to attempt to take the hands of the clock by the time they reach senior status and the last time anyone was successful was in 2005, when two students climbed the tower and took the clock hands.

The tradition started in the 1960′s and the university has stepped up the security measures since then.

The culprits responsible for the 2005 prank were turned in to the campus police by their room-mate, but the students responsible for this recent one have not yet been caught. The incident is under investigation and, if caught, the individuals responsible are expected to face charges of theft.

One student said; “As long as anyone can remember, people have been trying to weasel their way up there and steal the clock hands. I don’t know how they’ve been able to do it but it’s a tradition and I think everyone tries to do it by their senior year.”

School officials said it’s not only a criminal offense to take the hands, but it also carries safety concerns.
